Beyond the Stethoscope: Doctors Learn to Connect, Not Just Cure

To handle increasing patient-doctor disputes, the Indian government is introducing a special training scheme for doctors working in government hospitals. The objective of the move is to equip medical practitioners with soft skills needed to effectively deal with patients and attendants, reducing confrontations. The programme, led by the National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW), will emphasis communication skills, patient psychology, leadership, and time management skills to reduce showdowns.

This move comes as India's public health system struggles with communication failures and high rates of patient dissatisfaction. By creating a more communicative and empathetic healthcare culture, the government aims to restore trust and enhance treatment outcomes.
