BJP's Power Play: Advisers and DANICS Officers Join the Delhi Team

The Delhi BJP leadership is set to increase the efficiency of the Rekha Gupta government by deploying six senior officials as advisers or Officers on Special Duty (OSDs) to cabinet ministers. Each minister will also be provided with a senior officer of the Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Civil Service (DANICS) as their secretary. The initiative is intended to achieve effective governance and deliver poll promises. The appointments are a part of a larger strategy to cut administrative complexity and plug governance lacunas left behind by the earlier AAP regime. The BJP follows the AAP model, too, as it had also relied on political appointees to aid ministers. But while the Congress regime headed by Sheila Dikshit had depended substantially on bureaucracy, the BJP is incorporating party activists into important positions.
