Expo Venue and Timing: The two-day event will be held from May 29–30, 2025, at the Shahid Abu Sayeed International Convention Centre, Shahbagh, Dhaka.

Organizers: Bangladesh Engineering Industry Owners’ Association (BEIOA) with supports from the Export Competitiveness for Jobs (EC4J) project under the Ministry of Commerce.

Ambitious Export Target: BEIOA President Mr. Md. Abdur Razzaque announced that, with solid policy support, increase in investment capacity, and overhauling of infrastructure, the sector has the capacity to contribute to a target of $100 billion export. Presently, Bangladesh has less than 1% of the market share of the global market and exports solely $795 million annually.

Sector Information: There are over 50,000 enterprises, with directly over 300,000 employees and indirectly supporting more than 3 million workers. The sector contributes nearly 3% to the overall national GDP and meets 50% of domestic demand for machinery parts.

What to expect at the expo: 44 stalls from 24 to 27 of the leading domestic companies will showcase innovation on metal casting, industrial parts, agricultural equipment, auto parts, dies and moulds, and electricals.

Policy Requests: BEIOA is asking the government to develop compliant industrial zone, abolish customs duties on raw materials, establish cash incentives, consider simplification of patent protection laws, and provide targeted training - particularly for women and youth - to strengthen global competitiveness.

Government Response: Commerce Secretary Md. Mahbubur Rahman will be inaugurating the expo, with the assurance that the government is working hard to deliver on the demand of the industry and to facilitate the growth of the sector.

“With the right support, Bangladesh can become a global leader in light engineering exports,” said BEIOA President Md. Abdur Razzaque.

The expo would be a launching pad for the light engineering sector to engage new buyers, access investment, and showcase their competitive potential internationally.
