Burning the Midnight Oil... and the Midday Oil: Brin's AI Overtime

Co-founder Sergey Brin of Google urged staff building its Gemini AI endeavor to work 60-hour weeks and appear every weekday at the office. Writing in an office memo, Brin termed the practice "the sweet spot of productivity" in order to successfully compete on developing artificial general intelligence (AGI). He used the need for "turbocharging" the efforts as reason to come in to the office each weekday. Brin cautioned against putting in over 60 hours of work to prevent burnout, and faulted those with less effort. This is amid a push for Google to take back its AI innovation competitive edge after OpenAI's ChatGPT breakthrough. The memo is not officially rescinding Google's three-day in-office policy but heralds more vigorous work culture.
