Can India Crack the Chip Code? Experts Say Yes

India has the potential to mirror its automotive manufacturing success as a large-scale semiconductor hub, a Jefferies report finds. Government policy support, increased demand, and low-cost manufacturing capabilities are main drivers. Investments worth more than $18 billion are already under way on five projects, including Tata Electronics' $11 billion chip fab in partnership with Taiwan's PSMC. The government plans to raise electronics manufacturing four-fold to $500 billion by 2030. This drive is likely to generate about 80,000 jobs and build India's ecosystem for semiconductors.
