Cement Your Future: India’s Consumption is Building Up to Triple

India's demand for cement can triple, as a result of infrastructure growth and increasing per capita consumption, feels Puneet Dalmia, Managing Director at Dalmia Bharat. With per capita consumption currently standing at 280 kg—considerably lower than the world average of 550 kg—India has tremendous potential for growth and could reach as high as 750-800 kg during the high-growth periods. Despite the short-term setbacks of price wars, the sector is seeing healthy growth in demand at 7-8% year-on-year, with bigger players growing at 13-14%. Consolidation and strategic buying are additionally bolstering market leaders. This buoyancy is reflective of India's infrastructure-driven economic growth pattern.
