Singareni Collieries Company Limited, the state government-owned coal mining firm in Telangana, declared a substantial Diwali bonus of Rs 1.03 lakh per eligible worker. This year, approximately 39,500 workers stood to benefit, receiving a combined Rs 400 crore as a token of appreciation for their hard work and dedication throughout the year.

The bonus payout aligns with the company's Performance Linked Reward (PLR) scheme and was credited to workers’ bank accounts on October 18, just in time for the Diwali festivities. Eligibility was based on completion of 190 muster days in underground mines or 240 days in opencast and surface operations during the 2024–25 fiscal year. Those with fewer days got a pro-rata bonus, while only workers with at least 30 muster days qualified.

Commitment to Worker Welfare

SCCL Chairman and Managing Director N. Balaram emphasized the Telangana government's commitment to employee welfare through this financial reward, extending Diwali greetings to the workers and their families. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka also praised the coal workers' crucial role, calling the bonus an acknowledgment of their contribution to fueling the nation’s energy needs.

Balaram urged employees to use the bonus wisely, either for family needs or savings under government schemes, and encouraged them to maintain high performance to meet future production targets. This bonus reflects a broader push by the Telangana government to boost morale and ensure financial security for its mining workforce.
