Copper Comeback: Hindustan Copper Revives Kolihan Mine Operations

Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL), the only vertically integrated copper producer in India, has declared that ore production will begin at the Kolihan Copper Mine in Rajasthan. A pivotal moment has occurred with this announcement as HCL strives to increase domestic copper production to lessen import reliance.

 

The Kolihan Copper Mine is located within HCL's Khetri Copper Complex, which has historically been a large contributor to HCL's production activities. The re-initiation of mining activities comes subsequent to a strategic maintenance and optimization window that improved operational performance and sustainability. This latest announcement serves to reinforce HCL's commitment to provide copper domestic demand, which has increased significantly for industries such as electronics, construction, and renewable, sustainable energy, over the last decade.

 

HCL has been actively working on advancing its mining activities across multiple sites, such as Malanjkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Ghatsila, Jharkhand, among others. HCL's integrated mining activities take the form of mining, beneficiation, smelting, refining and production of copper products such as cathodes and wire rods.
