Court Order Brings A Fresh Layer of Peace to Sambhal's Shahi Jama Masjid

The whitewashing of the outside wall of Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, has begun after directions from the Allahabad High Court. The court directed the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to finish the whitewashing within a week. This comes after the atmosphere in Sambhal intensified following riots on November 24 last year, triggered by a survey of Mughal-era mosque, leaving four people dead and many injured.

The ASI took measurements and inspections on March 13, and whitewashing started on Sunday. The job will be done by a group of eight individuals. Security has been increased in the area to ensure peace. The case will be heard again on April 8.
