Dal in Danger: Pests Gobble India’s Pulse Stocks, Food Security at Risk

The report, reviewed by *Mint Hyderabad*, was conducted by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research–Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology (ICAR-CIPHET). It examined over 500 stacks of pulse bags across 101 warehouses nationwide. Findings highlight serious gaps in scientific storage protocols, with pests and moisture damage leading to significant losses. The Department of Consumer Affairs has been urged to implement uniform standards for shelf life, safe storage, and milling outturn to safeguard national stocks.
