Delhi Airport Charges to Skyrocket: Air Travelers Prepare for Increased Airfares

Travelers flying to and from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi could soon pay more for airfares with GMR Airports aiming to raise User Development Fee (UDF) substantially. The operator of the airport has recommended raising UDF from existing Rs 52 to as much as Rs 610 for domestic and Rs 1,620 for international travelers. Airlines such as IndiGo, Air India, and Akasa Air have called for reconsideration with threats of price increases of up to 5-10%. The plan to finance the infrastructure upgrade brings about a tiered pricing system considering travel class and peak periods. If approved, the new fee could be in effect from April 1, 2025, affecting millions of passengers.
