Drivers Unaware of £10,000 Fine and 12 Penalty Points Risk Starting Monday

Motorists in the UK are being alerted to stricter enforcement of driving offences starting Monday, which could lead to fines of up to £10,000 and 12 penalty points for serious violations. With the new rules in place, accumulating 12 points within three years usually results in a six-month driving ban. However, courts have the discretion to impose tougher penalties based on the severity of the offence, including fines that are a percentage of the offender's weekly income, with a maximum of £2,500 for speeding on motorways.  These changes are designed to improve road safety by focusing on repeat offenders and dangerous driving habits. Importantly, drivers caught using mobile phones or engaging in other high-risk behaviours may face immediate bans along with significant fines.
