Dzire Raises the Bar: First Indian Sedan to Bag 5-Star Bharat NCAP, Baleno Scores a Stylish 4

It is an historic achievement for Indian auto safety since Maruti Suzuki's all-new Dzire is the first Indian sedan to receive a highly coveted 5-star safety rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP). The award was officially conferred by Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, at a function in New Delhi on June 11, 2025. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno was also strong, scoring a good 4-star rating in the same test cycle.

This feat not only proves Maruti Suzuki's commitment to passenger safety but also sets the industry standard, especially as the Dzire is the first non-SUV to receive the top rating since the launch of Bharat NCAP. The Dzire and Baleno have Suzuki's fifth-generation HEARTECT platform and are fitted with a host of safety features like six airbags, Electronic Stability Program+ (ESP), ABS with EBD, and a 360-degree HD camera.

Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari was impressed by Maruti Suzuki's move, emphasizing the importance of making every segment of vehicles safer. He also appreciated the move for making six airbags a standard fitment on all models by the end of the year—a move that is expected to make other manufacturers follow suit.
