ECI Resolves Decades-Long Duplicate Voter ID Issue with Unique EPICs

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has replaced over 90% of duplicate Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) with distinct identifiers, settling a problem long-standing in nature. From 992 million enrolled voters, around 500,000 were marked for inconsistency on account of decentralized numbering systems in use prior to moving to the ERONET system. The effort sees all voters with a unique EPIC, boosting transparency and minimizing errors within electoral rolls. Physical validation was done across the country, and duplicate cards were gathered and put to flames. This action tightens India's democratic process by eradicating confusion and enhancing the precision of voter identification.
