Eco-Revolution on Wheels: Nepal's EV Imports Soar to New Heights

Nepal's electric vehicle (EV) market remains strong, with imports going up 1.57% to 6,256 units during the first seven months of FY 2024-25. Chinese companies lead, accounting for 76% of Nepal's EVs, while India supplies 23%. The imported EVs, worth 14.75 billion rupees ($1.05 billion), contributed 9.08 billion rupees ($64.7 million) to government revenue. This is supported by Nepal's vision to switch from petroleum-run light vehicles to EVs by 2031, prompted by environmental issues and economic gains. The spike in EV usage represents increasing consumer appetite for environmentally friendly transport and government efforts towards a sustainable transport solution
