Functioning under the Safe and Trusted pillar of the IndiaAI Mission, AISI advances both the science and practice of responsible AI, placing India among the global vanguard of AI safety initiatives.
The institute operates on a hub-and-spoke model, leveraging a nationwide network of academic, industry, government, and civil society partners to foster indigenous research and build India-centric AI regulatory frameworks.
AISI’s mandate is to ensure AI technologies are developed and adopted in a manner that is safe, inclusive, contextually relevant, and aligned with India’s cultural and socio-economic diversity.

Establishing National Standards for AI Safety

IndiaAI Safety Institute aims to formulate technical tools, ethical guidelines, and risk frameworks suited to the Indian context, supporting both innovation and protection for citizens.
