Flocking Together: Hyderabad's Bird Enthusiasts Unite for a Feathered Census

Hyderabad's first-ever Bird Atlas has concluded its initial phase, documenting an impressive 67,000 birds across 195 species. The collaborative effort, led by WWF-India, Hyderabad Birding Pals, and Deccan Birders, surveyed 11% of the city's landscape. Red-vented bulbuls emerged as the most common sighting, while the state bird, the Indian roller, was spotted 26 times. The project, set to continue for three years, aims to track urban biodiversity and inform conservation efforts. With 275 species historically recorded in Hyderabad, this citizen science initiative provides crucial insights into the impact of urbanization on local birdlife.
