From Chaos to Comeback: Barabati Stadium's Journey of Redemption Ahead of India-England ODI

On October 5, 2015, the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack experienced significant crowd trouble during a T20I match between India and South Africa, leading to calls for a two-year ban on hosting international matches. Frustrated fans threw water bottles onto the field after India was bowled out for just 92 runs, prompting multiple interruptions in play. Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar criticized the incident and urged the BCCI to impose sanctions, highlighting the need for a deterrent against such behavior. Although no official ban was enacted, the stadium did not host international games until January 19, 2017. In response, security measures were enhanced to prevent future disturbances as Cuttack prepares for an ODI against England on February 9, 2025.
