From Earth to Space: The Thrilling Journey of Astronauts Like Shubhanshu Shukla

Astronauts such as Shubhanshu Shukla go through intensive training in different parts of the globe. Shukla, who will be the first Indian astronaut on a commercial mission to the International Space Station, has trained at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Russia and the Astronaut Training Facility in Bengaluru, India. He also trained in America, at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, where he got familiar with ISS modules and SpaceX systems.

Iceland's volcanic landscape is another special training ground, providing a moon-like setting for astronauts to prepare for sample returns. The NASA centers in the U.S. also offer extensive training, such as virtual spacewalk simulations.
