From Extraction to Empowerment: India's Bold Vision Reshapes African Partnerships

India's new Africa policy was unveiled by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar at the Japan-India-Africa Business Forum on February 26, 2025. As Africa's fourth-largest trade partner, with bilateral trade in the region of $100 billion, India is promoting a paradigm of co-development. Jaishankar put the spotlight on India's $12 billion commitment to African infrastructure and the successful delivery of more than 200 projects across the board. The emphasis is on capacity building, skill acquisition, and technology transfer, differentiating India's strategy from "extractive" models. Jaishankar also highlighted the possibilities of India-Japan cooperation in facilitating Africa's sustainable development, ushering in a new era of trilateral
