Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla in flight uniform, ISS and SpaceX Dragon in the background (illustrative) India will embark on a new chapter of space exploration as IAF Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla will become the first Indian astronaut to fly to the International Space Station (ISS) in May 2025. Selected for Axiom Space's Ax-4 mission, Shukla will be pilot aboard SpaceX Dragon, as part of a multinational crew led by retired NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson. This is a historic mission that comes after four decades of Rakesh Sharma's 1984 journey and is part of India's space ambitions under the ISRO's Gaganyaan programme.
