Google Wins Big in India: Tribunal Reduces Antitrust Fine to ₹260 Crore!

India's National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has cut Google's antitrust fine from ₹936.44 crore to ₹260 crore in a case involving its Play Store policies. Google had been fined by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) for compelling app developers to utilize its in-house billing system for paid apps and in-app purchases as being anti-competitive. Though partially confirming CCI's conclusions, NCLAT granted relief in the form of reducing the fine, mentioning changes in the revenue impact calculation. This decision is an important milestone in India's regulatory examination of Big Tech actions.
