Government Pushes for Industry Co-Ownership in Skilling: Tata, Infosys, and Maruti Lead the Next Phase of Workforce Development

In a major policy shift, the Centre has announced enhanced industry participation in India’s skilling mission, aiming to create industry led, outcome based training ecosystems. The move is part of an ongoing effort by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) to ensure employability-focused learning aligned with evolving industry demands.

Key Highlights

• Industry Co-Ownership Model: Leading firms such as Tata Group, Infosys, Maruti Suzuki, Larsen & Toubro, and Mahindra will co-design and manage select skill development centres.
• Curriculum Revamp: Training modules will now be developed jointly with industry partners to bridge skill-gaps in manufacturing, digital, and EV technology sectors.
• Outcome Based Incentives: Funding and evaluation will tie to job placements and wage outcomes, increasing accountability.
• National Impact: The initiative is expected to reach over 20 lakh youth annually across 500+ training hubs by FY27.
