Green Goes Gold: Luxury EVs Get Dearer in Maharashtra

Maharashtra has imposed a 6% motor vehicle tax on electric vehicles with a price tag over ₹30 lakh, reversing earlier exemptions. This is likely to raise the price of luxury EVs, which could affect sales. A 1% hike in tax on CNG and LPG vehicles will be imposed on individually owned non-transport vehicles. These reforms are likely to raise state revenue by ₹320 crore in FY26. Both taxes on construction vehicles and light goods vehicles are now being fixed at 7%. All the above mentioned new taxation would be operational from April 1.
