High-Speed Milestone: Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train To Launch By 2029, Confirms Railway Minister

India’s ambitious bullet train project connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad is set to become operational by 2029, according to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Speaking in Surat on September 26, 2025, the minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the high-speed rail corridor within the revised timeline, citing significant progress in civil works and technology integration.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad section is part of the larger National High-Speed Rail Corporation initiative, which aims to introduce Japan’s Shinkansen-style rail technology to India. Once operational, the corridor will reduce travel time between the two cities from over six hours to just under two hours, revolutionizing intercity connectivity and economic integration.
