History on the House: ASI Unlocks Free Entry on International Museum Day

In a bid to celebrate International Museum Day on May 18, 2025, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has announced free entry to all its monuments and museums nationwide. This includes access to 52 site museums and thousands of protected monuments, which testify to India's rich cultural heritage-from prehistoric tools, sculptures, and medieval inscriptions. The initiative is aimed at increasing the public engagement with India's history and enabling the people to reconnect with their heritage.

 

ASI’s Museum Wing, managing sites like the historic Sarnath Museum, continues to upgrade facilities with modern technologies such as augmented and virtual reality to enhance visitor experiences. Recent highlights include India’s first underground museum at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Humayun’s Tomb and the Virtual Experiential Museum at Man Mahal Observatory, Varanasi.

 

With 3,698 protected sites and 26 UNESCO World Heritage sites under its care, ASI’s free entry day is a unique opportunity for citizens and tourists alike to explore India’s timeless legacy.
