Hope Sparkles: China’s Diamond Comeback Brightens Indian Export Prospects!

Recent reports indicate a cautious optimism for India's diamond industry as early recovery signs emerge from China's diamond market, valued at approximately $9 billion. The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) highlighted that China, the second-largest diamond market after the U.S., is expected to see its revenue rise from $5.7 billion last year to $7.2 billion by 2030. This shift comes after a significant downturn, where demand for diamonds in China plummeted by 50% and wholesale prices dropped by 40% over the past two years.

 

India's gem and jewellery exports fell by 23.49% in February 2025, totaling $2.42 billion, largely due to reduced demand from both the U.S. and China. However, participation in events like the Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show may help revitalize Indian exports amidst these positive trends in China.
