House of the People Gets New Houses: Modi to Inaugurate 184 Flats for MPs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate a state-of-the-art residential complex comprising 184 newly built Type-VII multi-storey flats for Members of Parliament on August 11, 2025, at Baba Kharak Singh Marg, New Delhi. Each flat includes five rooms—three main residential rooms and two guest rooms with separate entrances—alongside dedicated office spaces for MPs and their personal assistants, prayer rooms, living and meeting areas, modular kitchens, and staff quarters, ensuring a comprehensive living and working environment.

 

To facilitate ease of movement, separate elevators for MPs and staff are incorporated. The complex is fully equipped with central air-conditioning, audio-visual security systems, and provisions for accessibility, making it Divyangjan-friendly.

 

The amenities block hosts facilities like a community center for MP gatherings, press briefing rooms, a canteen, tuck shop, and ATMs, catering to the convenience of residents and staff.

 

Supporting infrastructure includes two-level underground parking accommodating around 500 vehicles, landscaped central lawns with walking paths and gazebos, and artistic installations inspired by India’s cultural heritage.

 

Environmentally sustainable features are integral to the project—it holds a GRIHA 3-star rating and complies with the National Building Code (NBC) 2016. The flats employ advanced green technologies aimed at energy efficiency, renewable energy generation through rooftop solar panels, and effective waste management.

 

Construction and Technological Innovation

 

The flats were constructed using monolithic concrete with aluminium shuttering technology, a modern technique that allowed rapid completion within nine months and enhanced structural durability. This replaced traditional brickwork and reduced per-floor construction cycles drastically.

 

Designed to withstand earthquakes and integrate state-of-the-art safety protocols, the buildings align with long-term usage plans, targeting a shelf life of 100 years.

 

The project adhered to strict environmental clearances, including transplantation of over 200 trees from the construction site, respecting ecological balance.

Situated on Baba Kharak Singh Marg, the complex provides MPs with excellent connectivity to key government institutions including the Parliament House, Rashtrapati Bhavan, and offices critical to parliamentary functions.

 

Its central location optimizes land use in the densely developed Lutyens’ Delhi area, where land scarcity has necessitated vertical housing solutions to accommodate MPs adequately.

 

Ceremony Details and Public Engagement

 

On the inauguration day, August 11, 2025, PM Modi will plant a Sindoor sapling within the premises symbolizing growth and auspicious beginnings.

 

The Prime Minister will also engage with the shramajeevis (construction workers) who contributed to building the flats, acknowledging their efforts in bringing the complex to fruition.

 

Prominent dignitaries including Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Ministers Manohar Lal Khattar and Kiren Rijiju, House Committee Chair Dr Mahesh Sharma, and numerous MPs will grace the occasion.

This project replaces the former government housing complex that included 243 older flats across 16 low-rise structures, now demolished to make way for this modern development.
