Humble Hero: Ex-MCA Secretary Refuses Anniversary Honor, Urges Pension Consideration

Vilas Godbole, former Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) secretary, has declined a Rs 10 lakh cheque offered as part of Wankhede Stadium's 50th anniversary celebrations. Godbole, the only surviving member of the 1974-75 MCA managing committee, stated, "I don't merit it because others have contributed too." He cited examples of deceased members who had also made significant contributions. Godbole emphasized that being the sole survivor doesn't make him deserving of the reward. He expressed gratitude for the salver presented to him recently. MCA Secretary Abhay Hadap indicated that Godbole's decision must be accepted. Additionally, Godbole has requested the MCA to consider his pension as an ex-Mumbai first-class cricketer be paid retrospectively from 2006. The MCA has discussed this issue multiple times but will reconsider it.
