ICSI Pushes for Recognition of Company Secretaries as 'Accountants' in New Tax Bill

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) has called for the inclusion of company secretaries in the definition of 'accountant' under Section 515(3)(b) of the Income-Tax Bill, 2025. ICSI President Dhananjay Shukla emphasized the vital role of company secretaries in ensuring compliance with tax regulations. The institute argues that this inclusion would recognize the profession's integral role in the financial and compliance landscape. ICSI, representing around 75,000 members, remains committed to advocating for this recognition and awaits a positive response from the government. The bill is currently under review by a 31-member select committee.
