IIMC Unveils AIME Academy To Put AI At The Heart Of India’s Newsrooms

IIMC’s new AIME Academy is designed as a centre of excellence that will train journalists, media educators, and students to use artificial intelligence responsibly and creatively in newsrooms and content studios. The launch also marks the culmination of a 10-week hybrid AI Skills Training Programme that has already upskilled over 110 professionals and students from more than 100 newsrooms and colleges.

Future-Facing Media Training

The AIME Academy aims to shift IIMC from traditional media pedagogy to future-facing, AI-enabled media capability, with a strong focus on the practical use of generative AI in journalism and entertainment workflows. The initiative is anchored in a five-pillar framework covering capacity building, research, innovation and incubation, responsible AI policy development, and strategic collaborations across the media ecosystem.

Building AI Literacy In Newsrooms

The academy builds on IIMC’s 10-week hybrid AI Skills Training Programme, which trained participants from public service broadcasters and private newsrooms across 23 cities and in more than 10 Indian languages. Trainees were equipped with foundational AI literacy and hands-on proficiency in tools such as NotebookLM, Gemini, AI Studio and Pinpoint to streamline reporting, transcription, data analysis and multilingual storytelling.
