IIT Guwahati Unveils Breakthrough Nanomaterial for Mercury Detection in Live Cells

In a significant advancement, researchers at IIT Guwahati have developed a novel nanomaterial capable of detecting toxic mercury in live human cells. This innovative solution utilizes modified perovskite nanocrystals, which are encapsulated in silica and polymer coatings to enhance their stability and luminescent intensity. The nanocrystals emit bright green light under specific wavelengths, allowing for precise imaging and monitoring of mercury levels, crucial for medical and environmental applications. This research promises to improve safety in toxic metal detection significantly.
