India Achieves Milestone: 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations Formed

The Indian government has successfully reached its target of establishing 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) under a flagship central scheme launched in 2020. The 10,000th FPO, focusing on maize, banana, and paddy cultivation, was recently inaugurated in Khagaria district, Bihar. This initiative has connected approximately 30 lakh farmers, with 40% being women, to FPOs across the country. The scheme, with a budget of ₹6,865 crore until 2027-28, aims to boost farmers' income through collective farming and marketing. So far, ₹254.4 crore in equity grants has been disbursed to 4,761 FPOs, while credit guarantee cover worth ₹453 crore has been extended to 1,900 FPOs.
