India and Italy’s Strategic Alliance: Crafting New Defence Frontiers

An important step towards enhancing bilateral defence ties was taken when India and Italy wrapped up their 13th Military Cooperation Group (MCG) meeting in Rome. Enhancing military-to-military cooperation, capability building, and cooperative training initiatives were the main topics of discussion. In order to enhance interoperability and operational readiness, both countries also examined current engagements and investigated fresh ideas. Italy's growing interest in the Indo-Pacific is reflected in key areas of cooperation, such as technology sharing, exchange programs, and maritime security. The meeting expands on the five-year strategic action plan that was presented at the 2024 G20 Summit and places a strong emphasis on innovation and partnerships in the defence industry. This renewed partnership demonstrates a common dedication to tackling issues of international security and promoting peace.
