India Auto Retail Surges In March As Inventory Normalises
India’s Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) has released March 2026 retail sales data, showing strong growth across vehicle categories. The upbeat numbers highlight resilient consumer demand, even as dealers caution about near-term economic and supply chain challenges.
Passenger And Commercial Vehicle Growth
Passenger vehicle retail sales rose 21.48% year-on-year, supported by new launches and festive demand. Commercial vehicle sales increased 15.12%, reflecting infrastructure activity and fleet replacement cycles.
Two-Wheeler Momentum
Two-wheeler sales surged 28.68%, driven by rural demand recovery, improved financing availability, and rising preference for affordable mobility solutions.
Inventory And Risks Ahead
FADA noted that passenger vehicle inventory has normalised to about 28 days, easing dealer concerns. However, risks remain from potential supply disruptions linked to West Asia, fuel price volatility, and broader economic slowdown pressures in the April–June quarter.
