India Hikes Inflation-Linked Allowance By 2% For Government Employees And Pensioners

Dearness Allowance, revised twice annually, is a crucial inflation-linked benefit for millions of government employees and retirees. The latest hike comes after delays and growing demands from employee unions, providing financial relief amid rising living costs.  

Allowance Revision Details  

The 2% increase takes DA and DR to 60%, directly boosting monthly payouts for employees across pay levels and pensioners. The hike is applicable from January 2026, with arrears to be disbursed, ensuring beneficiaries receive compensation for the delay.  

Impact On Employees And Pensioners  

For employees across Levels 1–18, the hike translates into higher take-home salaries. Pensioners will also see a proportional rise in monthly pensions, helping them manage inflation-driven expenses more effectively.  

Government’s Decision Context  

The announcement follows pressure from the National Council–Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM), which had urged early approval. The Cabinet’s move reflects its commitment to protecting incomes against inflation while balancing fiscal responsibility.
