India Includes Six Locations on UNESCO Tentative List

India has put six new properties on its tentative list for possible UNESCO recognition, a major step towards becoming World Heritage sites. The areas are Kanger Valley National Park in Chhattisgarh, Mudumal Megalithic Menhirs in Telangana, Ashokan Edict Sites along Mauryan Routes, Chausath Yogini Temples, Gupta Temples of north India, and the palace-fortresses of the Bundelas of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. This takes India's tally to 62 locations on the tentative list. Being on this list is a prerequisite for potential nomination to the World Heritage List, providing opportunities for increased conservation and tourism.
