India Names Pahalgam Retaliation Operation Sindoor, Honoring Victims

India’s counterstrike against terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir has been named Operation Sindoor, a title chosen by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to symbolize the grief and resilience of the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. The operation targeted nine terror sites linked to groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen, delivering a decisive response to the April 22 attack that claimed 26 lives.  

Symbolism Behind the Name  
- Sindoor, or vermilion, is traditionally worn by married Hindu women as a symbol of marriage and commitment. The name was chosen to honor the widows left behind after the Pahalgam attack, where terrorists deliberately targeted men based on their religion.  
- The Indian Army released an image of the operation’s name, with the letter "O" depicted as a bowl of vermilion, some of it spilled, representing the brutality of the attack.  
- The mission was designed to send a strong message that India would hold perpetrators accountable while paying tribute to the victims and their families.  

Strategic and Military Execution  
- The Indian Air Force carried out precision strikes on nine terror hideouts, including key strongholds in Bahawalpur, Kotli, Muzaffarabad, and Muridke.  
- Intelligence reports indicated that further attacks were being planned, prompting India to take swift action to dismantle terrorist infrastructure.  
- The operation was carefully executed to avoid civilian casualties while delivering a clear deterrent against future cross-border terrorism.
