India-Qatar Partnership Expands Beyond Energy into AI, Cybersecurity

India and Qatar are set to diversify their economic ties beyond traditional energy trade, focusing on cutting-edge sectors like Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, and semiconductors. At the India-Qatar Business Forum on February 18, 2025, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized the shift towards sustainability, technology, and entrepreneurship. The forum, coinciding with the Qatari Amir's visit, saw the signing of MoUs between industry bodies and investment promotion agencies of both countries. Qatar's Minister of Commerce expressed readiness to accelerate talks for a new Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement. The expanded cooperation aims to leverage India's growing technology sector and Qatar's modernized investment ecosystem, opening new avenues for collaboration in advanced manufacturing, innovation, and digital services.
