India Rules Out Duty Concessions on Liquor and Cigarettes in FTA Talks with Oman

In the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) negotiations with Oman, India has decided not to seek customs duty concessions on over 100 product categories, including liquor and cigarettes. This move is in line with India's commitment to protecting its health and industry interests at home. The CEPA is expected to increase bilateral trade, with India likely to gain greater market access for about 98% of its products in Oman, besides significant opportunities in the services sector. While the scope of the agreement is broad, India has been firm on excluding products that could have adverse socio-economic effects.
