India Strengthens Steel Sector with Quality Control and Competitive Pricing

The Indian government is intensifying efforts to prevent substandard steel imports, ensuring that only quality steel meets Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) norms. This move aims to safeguard the domestic industry and maintain competitiveness. The Steel Ministry has proposed a 25% safeguard duty on certain imports to protect domestic producers from cheap foreign steel. Additionally, the government is focusing on quality control orders (QCOs) to cover more steel grades, enhancing the sector's resilience and profitability amid rising domestic demand and global challenges.
