Indian Military History Takes Center Stage At World Book Fair

The New Delhi World Book Fair 2026 opened with grandeur at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, celebrating literature and knowledge with a unique focus on Indian military history. Organized by the National Book Trust in collaboration with the India Trade Promotion Organisation, the nine-day event is themed “Indian Military History: Valour and Wisdom @75,” commemorating India’s armed forces and their legacy of courage.  

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the fair alongside dignitaries from Qatar, the Guest of Honour country, and Spain, the Focus country. The theme pavilion showcases rare books, archival material, and narratives of India’s military campaigns, including Operation Sindoor, highlighting the sacrifices and strategic brilliance of the armed forces.  

Beyond the theme, the fair is a global literary confluence with participation from more than 1,000 publishers, 600 events, and 1,000 speakers. Visitors can explore diverse genres, attend author interactions, and engage in cultural exchanges. For the first time, entry has been made free, encouraging wider public participation and promoting reading culture at a time when digital distractions are on the rise.
