Indian Railways Races Towards Global Freight Leadership

Indian Railways will be among the world's top three freight carriers by March 31, 2025, with a vision to carry 1.6 billion tons of freight. This target positions India on par with China and the US in world freight ranks. The national transporter has already crossed the corresponding full-year freight loading of last year, increasing to 1,465.371 million tonnes during the first 11 months of FY 2024-25. With huge investments in infrastructure, ranging from the upgradation of Dedicated Freight Corridors to the induction of 200,000 new wagons, Indian Railways is set for record growth in its logistics operations.
