India's Digital Fortress: UIDAI Chief Calls for Innovative Cybersecurity Solutions

S.M.D. Jeelani, Director, UIDAI, has underscored the imperative requirement for out-of-the-box cybersecurity solutions to secure India's fast-growing digital economy. Addressing the launch of SISA's Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence Lab at Dayananda Sagar University, Jeelani pointed out India as the second most targeted country for cyber attacks. The lab will foster a new generation of cyber leaders that will have the ability for out-of-the-box thinking in order to secure the digital infrastructure.

This drive follows the government's growing interest in cybersecurity, seen in the Union Budget 2025 provision of more than ₹1,900 crore towards cybersecurity initiatives. Specific investments of ₹900 crore in the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems and ₹255 crore for CERT-In stand out. The move comes after shocking statistics with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre citing over ₹11,300 crore losses from cyber frauds last year.
