India’s Fiscal Deficit Hits ₹9.14 Trillion, Reaching 56.7% of FY25 Target by December

As of December 2024, India's fiscal deficit stood at ₹9.14 trillion, accounting for 56.7% of the full-year target for the 2024-2025 financial year. This figure is slightly lower than the 59.8% recorded during the same period in the previous fiscal year.

Net tax receipts for the April to December period totaled ₹18.43 trillion, representing 71.3% of the annual target, an increase from ₹17.3 trillion in the corresponding period last year. Total government expenditure reached ₹32.3 trillion, or about 67% of the annual goal, with capital expenditure—spending on physical infrastructure—amounting to ₹6.85 trillion, or 61.7% of the annual target.
