Indo-Indonesian Alliance: Turning the Tide on Terror

Key Developments

India and Indonesia have made a big step forward in their strategic alliance by establishing stronger anti-terror relationships, after high-level talks in Jakarta. This is in the aftermath of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and is a part of India's larger diplomatic campaign, Operation Sindoor, to mobilize international opinion against terrorism.

Diplomatic Engagements

An Indian all-party parliamentary delegation, headed by JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, interacted with Indonesian legislators, experts, and think tanks. The delegation emphasized India's zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism and called for increased regional cooperation to ensure peace and stability.

Indonesian leaders, such as the Committee for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Vice-Chairperson and Indonesia-India Parliamentary Friendship Group Chairperson, reaffirmed their opposition to terrorism and showed open support for India's anti-terror policies.

President Prabowo Subianto and Indonesian leaders quickly denounced the Pahalgam attack and voiced solidarity with India and reiterated that there should be collective action to combat extremism.

Strategic Outcomes

Both countries committed to increasing intelligence sharing, policy coordination, and concerted efforts against terror financing and misuses of technology by terror organizations.

Talks also touched on the need to counter terrorism narratives and the need for civil society, academia, and media to be involved in promoting efficient counterterrorism policies.

Indonesia reiterated its support for the territorial integrity of India and aligned itself with India's opposition to Pakistan's efforts to internationalize the Kashmir issue, further enhancing mutual trust.

Regional and Global Reach

The joint effort is a collective stance against terrorism across borders, with the two nations vowing cooperation in multilateral organizations like ASEAN and the United Nations.

India's initiative is part of an extensive diplomatic campaign, with delegations traveling to more than 30 capitals to lay bare Pakistan's terrorism connections and garner international backing.
