ISBT Dreams on Hold: Gurugram's Bus Depot Gets a Facelift Instead!

The renovation of Gurugram's Sector 12 bus depot is in progress because of delays in the new interstate bus terminal (ISBT) construction at Sector 36A. The old depot covering 13 acres is in bad shape, and some buildings have been declared unsafe. Authorities are going to modernize facilities by constructing a new shed to enhance operations and support more buses efficiently. This is as the ISBT project is encountering hurdles, mainly in terms of land allotment by the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC). While proposals for a new, multi-storey terminal with a 500-1,000 passenger capacity were made, final clearances are yet to be obtained. The current delays are symptomatic of a larger problem of infrastructure development in Gurugram, where old facilities are unable to cope with increasing demand.
