ISRO's Cosmic Chip: A Giant Leap for India

ISRO and IIT Madras have jointly developed an indigenous semiconductor chip named IRIS (Indigenous RISCV Controller for Space Applications) for space-based applications. The chip is built on the SHAKTI processor baseline, enhancing reliability and fault tolerance, making it suitable for space missions. Although the announcement does not specifically mention a 32-bit microprocessor, the IRIS chip marks a significant step towards self-reliance in semiconductor technology under the 'Make in India' initiative. The chip was manufactured at the Semiconductor Laboratory in Chandigarh and packaged by Tata Advanced Systems in Karnataka.
