Jaipur is set to see a huge urban mobility transformation as Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of Jaipur Metro Phase-2 and sent it to the Centre for the final nod. Key Highlights:

Route & Reach:

The 42.8 km corridor will run from Todi Mod (Sikar Road) in the north to Prahladpura in the south and will include 36 stations—34 elevated and 2 underground. The corridor will link strategically important residential, commercial, educational, and industrial centers such as VKI and Sitapura Industrial Areas, Tonk Road, Vidhyadhar Nagar, SMS Hospital, and Jaipur Airport's new terminal.

Airport Connectivity:

One of the major highlights is the planned underground metro station directly beneath the new terminal of Jaipur International Airport, with the assurance of hassle-free travel for air passengers.

Implementation & Funding:

The project will be developed by the newly established Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation (RMRC), a 50:50 centre-state government joint venture. It will be funded through a combination: 20% each from the Centre and state, and 60% from soft loans from institutions such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

Timeline:

Construction will be started after central clearance, and the foundation stone will be laid prior to Diwali 2025. The whole corridor must be finished in five years, and the work will be executed in phases to avoid city-wide disruption.

Economic & Environmental Impact:

The project will not only be able to reduce traffic congestion to a great extent, decrease pollution, and increase economic activity by offering improved access to city center locations, but also generate new job opportunities and make Jaipur's sustainable development possible.

Integration:

Plans include a foot overbridge between Phase-1 and Phase-2 stations and a spur line to enable easy movement between corridors for a comfortable metro ride for passengers. With the DPR waiting to be cleared by the Centre, Jaipur is poised to take the quantum jump in public transport, with the potential for quicker, cleaner, and more convenient commutes for millions.
