Jet-Set India: These 10 Airports Are Driving the Nation’s Air Travel Revolution

India's aviation industry has achieved significant growth with the ten busiest airports together accommodating more than 300 million passengers, in fiscal year 2023-24. The Indira Gandhi International Airport (Delhi) was the largest, serving around 73.67 million passengers, or 12.8% more than it did in the previous year - Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (Mumbai) was second overall, with 52.82 million passengers and a current year rise of 20.2% - and Kempegowda International Airport (Bengaluru) was third overall, at 37.53 million and 17.6%.​

 

Typical airports included Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (Hyderabad) at 25.04 million passengers (19.3%), Chennai International Airport at 21.21 million (14.2%), and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (Kolkata) at 19.78 million (11.3%). Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (Ahmedabad) served 11.7 million (15.4%), Cochin International Airport served 10.37 million (17.6%), and Pune Airport served 9.53 million passengers (19%). 

 

However, Dabolim Airport (Goa) experienced an 17.8% decrease at 6.87 million passengers.​This consistent growth highlights the strong revival and growth of India's aviation industry, and the amount of demand for air travel that is spanning towards the country.
